bit-tech.net

A review with images of the board and BIOS, lots of stress testing and the board's layout is explaind thouroughly. The MSI 785G-E65 was compared to the following motherboards:
  • ECS A785GM-M
  • Asus M4A785TD-V Evo
  • Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H
  • M4A78-HTPC.

Conclusion: This mobo performs good at stock speeds, but was very hard to overclock, it wasn't very stable, and in the end bit-tech got it stable just over 3GHz, a poor result. The IGP is supported by 128MB GDDR3 Sideport memory, this extra memory should help with easing the demands on the main memory, but bit-tech didn't see much benefit.

Overclocking: The overclocking results were very poor, bit-tech.net reached 3.12GHz with a Phenom II 720 Black Edition, HTT set to 233MHz and a 14x multiplier, the CPU voltage was raised to 1.488V.

Bechmarks: Everest, Sandra, HDtach, GIMP, Handbrake h.264 ,MPC-HC, 7zip, Far Cry 2, Call of Duty 4.

iXBT Labs

A review with a few of photos of the box and board. ixbtlabs looks at the differences between the motherboards in the MSI 785G product line. The MSI 785GM-E65 was compared with a Gigabyte MA785GT-UD3H.

Conclusion: Better than expected and peripheral functionality is good. It has full overclocking support, a stable power supply and is a great power saver, which can be explained because of the good power supply design.

Overclocking: A Phenom II X3 720 (2.8 GHz Black Edition) was over overclocked with an Increased multiplier (CPU core and NB) @3850MHZ. The Phenom II X4 810 (2.6 GHz) was overclocked using the Increased reference clock and reduced CPU NB/HT multipliers @3640, it became apparent that in the last case overclocking was limited by the motherboard..

Bechmark tested: 7-Zip, WinRAR, Crysis, World in Conflict and FarCry 2.

tbreak.com

The MSI 785GM-E65 was compared to the MSI 790GX-G65, ECS A790GXM-AD3 and the ECS A780GM-A Ultra.

Conclusion: Capable of supporting 140w CPUs, which makes it easier to upgrade the CPU in future. The ATi HD 4200 IGP has its own dedicated 1Gbit 1333MHz boost memory for enhanced graphics performance. The MSI 785GM-E65 also had a better performance in most benchmarks.

Overclocking: tbreak.com did not perform any overclocking.

Bechmarks:3Dmark06, PCmark05, PCmark and 3Dmark Vantage, Cinebench, Company of Heroes, Crysis CPU, ET: Quake Wars, HalfLife 2, STALKER, SupremeCommander, Office 2003, Photoshap CS3, Winrar, Firefix 2.

tomshardware.com

An AMD 785G-Based Motherboards Round-Up. The MSI 785GM-E65 was compared to the following motherboards:
  • ASRock M3A785GXH/128M
  • Asus M4A785TD-V EVO
  • Biostar TA785GE 128M
  • Foxconn Cinema Premium
  • Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H
  • ECS A785GM-M.

Conclusion: MSI supplies rich features and excellent legacy connectivity support. The SidePort memory is a real extra and there is good BIOS control for unlocking dormant CPU cores.

Overclocking: SidePort memory was overloaded to 1,700 MHz but the integrated GPU wasn't that overclock-friendly as the final OC result was only 800 MHz.

Bechmarks:iTunes, Lame Audio Encoder, TMPGEnc 4.6, DivX 6.8.5, Xvid 1.2.1, MainConcept Reference 1.6.1, Autodesk 3ds Max 2009, Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus 8.5, WinRAR 3.80, WinZip 12, Left 4 Dead, Crysis, World in Conflict.
