The question: Does the Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3 support proper Crossfire ??

The answer: The UD3 does not support CrossFire @ dual 8x mode, instead it supports @ 16x4x, which won't won't perform very well.

A forum discussion and comparison between the UD3 and UD2.

Professional Reviews

  • hardware.info

The UD3 was compared to 20 other mobos from MSI, ASUS, Asrock etc. In Cinebench 10 the UD3 was one of the slowest boards.

Bechmarks tested: Sisoftsandra 2009, Cinebench 10, 3Dmark Vantage.

  • madshrimps.be

The Gigabyte P55-UD3 is compared to the Gigabyte P55-UD6 and the MSI P55-GD80.

Conclusion: An inexpensive P55 platform with lots of BIOS settings and good Overclockability, the performance is on par with the high-end models, on the other hand the bundle doesn't contain lots of extras.

Overclocking: The Gigabyte P55-UD3 with a core i5 was tested @3.8Hz with a CoolerMaster V8, unfortunately madshrimps didn't do any extreme testing with the UD3 they only used the above mentioned high-end models for that.

    Bechmarks tested: PCmark05, 3DMark Vantage, Cinebench 10, Hexus Pifast, Lavalys Everest 4.50, PCMark05, SuperPi 1M and 32M, Winrar, Wprime 32M and 1024M.

A very extensive test with many (exotic) benchmarks, where the i7 920, 860, 870, i5 750, Core 2 Quad Q9550 and Phenom II X4 965 BE are compared.

All socket 1156 processors are tested with the Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3, the other boards in the test are:

    1. Gigabyte GA-MA790 FXT-UD5P(socket 1366)
    2. Asus Maximum II Formula(socket 775)
    3. Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R (socket AM3).

Bechmarks tested: MainConcept Reference, Premiere Pro CS3, Handbrake iPod Classic, POV Ray 3.7, ProShow Producer, Fritz Chess Benchmark, Valve Particle Test and of course all the 'usual' benchmarks.

  • techradar.com

Conclusion: Only half the price of the UD6, techradar managed to get almost the same performance from this mobo as from more expensive P55 boards.

Overclocking: After some BIOS tweakery techradar couldn't squeeze their 2.93GHz i7 870 over the 4GHz mark, they were still a 100MHz short.

    Bechmarks tested: None.

Cons: A far more stripped down chipset and thus techradar thinks the UD3 is a bit expensive.
