ASUS P7P55D-E PRO

Conclusion:

P7P55D-E Pro is an enthusiast board with a good feature set, it's stable and the overclocking performance is OK. USB3 and SATA3 are the interfaces you'll need in the years to come. The reviewers recommend this mobo to anyone looking for a good LGA1156 motherboard from a trusted manufacturer.

Compared to: Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3R.

Overclocking: A i5-750 was stable up to 3.5GHz (175MHz BCLK), the board became unstable above 180MHz. The reviewers had some RAM issues and even the The MemOk! button was no help for them during the overclocking tests. They wouldn't recommend this board as an overclockers dream board, but if you just want an extra 300-500MHz, this board will be OK.

Benchmarks: SiSoft Sandra, LAME, PCMark Vantage, Cinebench R10 and 11.5 64-bit, Low-Resolution Gaming: Crysis.

Test Setup:

  • Graphics Card : ATI Radeon HD 5970
  • HDD : WD 1TB Caviar Black
  • Memory: 2x2GB Elpida DDR3-1333

ASUS P7P55D-E Pro

This motherboard was compared to the Intel DP55KG Kingsberg and its own overclocking results in the benchmarks.

ASUS P7P55D-E PRO

This board was not compared to another motherboard, instead overclocked and stock values were compared.

Conclusion: The PRO is about $100.- cheaper than the top in the P55 segment, the PREMIUM, it lacks some onboard switches, two extra USB2 ports, a second LAN port and the SouthBridge cooler is not as nice, the reviewer thinks that these extras are negligible. The board performed well , had no issues and was very stable. The BIOS was layout was very good and had a lot of OC options that makes this mobo an excellent overclocker. the reviewer gave it a 10 out of 10 score.

Overclocking: A Core i7 870 was OCed @ 4.324GHz, BCLK 196.6MHz and QPI Link 3538.4MHz. The CPU air-cooling used was a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus and the DDR3-1600 memory was OCZ Platinum 7-7-7.

Benchmarks: SuperPi, Cinebench, Sandra, 3Dmark2006, 3D and PCmark Vantage, Photoshop Bench, Crysis, PT Boats, Call of Juarez

ASUS P7P55D-E PRO

A while ago techgage tested the ASUS P7P55D Pro, the additional 'E' for the ASUS P7P55D-E Pro means that this mobo has USB3 and SATA3 connectors. The P7P55D-E PRO was compared to the ASUS P7P55D Pro, ASUS P7P55D-E Pro, Gigabyte P55-UD5, Gigabyte P55A-UD4P, Intel DP55WG.

Conclusion: The P7P55D-E PRO is a great performer and has many features. In some cases, it performed better than the other boards except for SYSmark VideoCreation. The PLX chip takes care that your primary graphics card will still run at 16x instead of 8x when using USB3.0 or SATA 3.0. The board is also designed to use one PCI-e slot for a dedicated PhysX card.

Overclocking: A core i7 870 was OCed @ 4.33GHz with a vCore of 1.45v and 24X180.6(BCLK) and the QPI link was 3250MHz. The TurboV EVO overclocking utility wasn't included in the software bundle(It can still be downloaded from the ASUS site though), instead you will find Intel's Extreme Tuning. The the 'CPU Level Up' option in the AI Tweaker (BIOS) menu is found at the top, for overclockers that like to be on the 'safe-side'.

Bechmarks: 3ds Max 2010, SYSmark 2007 Preview, ATTO, PC and 3DMark Vantage, Sandra, TMPGEnc Xpress 4.5, 7zip, WinRAR, Adobe Lightroom, World at War, Crysis Warhead.
